The world has never stopped reinventing itself.
I have watched kingdoms become nations, horses become engines, letters become light. Every generation has believed itself to be the one that finally escaped the ignorance of the last. They celebrate each new discovery as though history itself has been conquered.
Yet time has taught me a quieter truth.
The world changes far more easily than the people within it.
Fear still finds us.
Grief still follows us.
We continue searching for something beyond ourselves to blame, to worship, to numb us, or to save us. Only the names have changed.
I sometimes wonder whether I have outlived the curse… or merely its disguises.
There have been mornings lately when I have forgotten to think about it.
That alone feels impossible.
Hope is a dangerous thing after so many centuries. It asks you to believe the next answer will succeed where every other answer has failed. I have carried that belief across oceans, through forests, into temples, laboratories, and places whose names would have meant nothing to the man who first opened this journal.
It has disappointed me every time.
And still…
I find myself listening for a silence that has never lasted before.
Perhaps that is what survival truly becomes.
Not certainty.
Only the willingness to believe, once again, that tomorrow may be different.
